Blue Jay Primary Feather Splay
Blue Jay Primary Feather Splay
This sculpture of a series of blue jay primary feathers will make the perfect addition to a nature-lover’s shelf or mantlepiece. Great for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts and bird nerds. They are guaranteed to make a great conversation piece and will fit on nearly any wall!
The feathers are hand-carved out of birch wood and painted with milk paint. They are true to size and are mounted on a cherry board with dowels for a 100 percent wood construction. The feathers appear to “float” above the mounting board, causing fun shadows depending on where you put it in your home. The backs of the feathers are completely unfinished and left intentionally rough, encouraging exploration and proof that they are indeed wood upon close inspection. The entire piece is finished with tung oil. The brass plaque displays the common and scientific name and is fastened with antique brass slotted screws. The back is signed and dated and has picture wire installed.
This sculpture measures approximately 10” x 8”
